What Clients Say
★★★★★
The food, drinks and service were all very good. We visited on a Tuesday and they had a special tostada menu — there were two of us and we shared the Queso Fundido, which was excellent. Then we tried all the tostadas — yes, all of them — and finished with a delicious dessert recommended by our waitress. The cocktails were fantastic and the vibe in the room was exactly right for a fun weeknight dinner. One of the best Mexican meals we’ve had in Sydney. Will be back!

Maiz is a genuinely special restaurant. The set menu is superb value and takes you on a beautiful flavour journey from the welcome mezcal shot through the fish ceviche tostadas, corn soup and all the way to the seasonal Mexican ice block. Chef Juan Negrete clearly loves his craft — the hibiscus al pastor and duck confit with mole were extraordinary. The wine and cocktail list is thoughtful and reasonably priced. Comfortably among the top ten dining experiences in Sydney!

I tried the Saturday bottomless brunch for $89 — 90 minutes of free-flowing wine, beer and margaritas plus a full brunch spread. Absolute highlight was the tlacoyo divorciado: corn flatbread with black beans, eggs, salsa, cream and chilli oil. The room is beautifully designed with white walls, natural light and hanging greenery — it genuinely feels like stepping into a cosy Mexican eatery. The staff were warm, knowledgeable and patient. Already booked my next visit!

Maiz is at the absolute forefront of proper Mexican cuisine right here in Sydney. From the cactus ceviche tostadas to the braised hibiscus flower tacos — these are ingredients and preparations you simply cannot find anywhere else in Australia. The Hurache de Cachete (beef cheek on a corn flatbread) is my highlight dish. I also ordered the horchata — creamy, lightly cinnamon-infused and a perfect cooling drink. Maiz is ranked #1 in my heart. Exceptional every single time!
